Tournament Recaps 3/5-6/22

Double Winners this week! I AM is have a great run on championship victories!

12 RED

This weekend 12 Red played in the UW Whitewater Open. It was a 12 team tournament, and spoiler alert, we came out on top! We started out our day with two wins against MWP 11s and WI Elite. Both were competitive matches, the first taking three sets and the second only taking two! These wins put us in the gold bracket for the afternoon!  The semifinal match was against Adversity 12s. It was an intense three set match, but the girls were able to overcome all of the pressure and play confidently to come out with the win! The championship match was against Madtown Juniors 12s. The first set was extremely close as we struggled with getting side outs, but the girls pushed through to win 25-23. The second set was a complete change as we dominated the entire set, winning 25-16! All of the wins throughout the day were a complete team effort. Every single player brought valuable efforts on and off the court!  When certain players were struggling, others stepped up to help them out and keep the team in a positive mindset. All of the hard work in practice really started to show in this tournament as the girls played with great energy and confidence. Congrats to the players of 12 Red on winning their first championship of the season!

#Shoutout to  Avlynn and Addi for earning serving pins!

#Shoutout to sunny for earning Tournament MVP! She was an absolute force in the middle, with great swings and blocks!

15 RED

This weekend we were up in Appleton at the Impact Lights Out Classic. The day started out with an easy match, then we found ourselves playing a good Wisconsin Ice team in match 2. Unfortunately, we had an error prone match. It didn't matter what we tried, we just couldn't put the sloppy play behind us and we lost the match in 3. We finished out pool play in a win which was good enough to put us in the Gold bracket.

The first round of gold was an easy warm up. Our semi final match was against Impact 15 Blue. The team has been looking forward to this rematch, Impact beat us back in January. We went up by a few points early, then finished strong winning 25-18. The next set was even up until 11-11, when Greta went on a little run helping us win set two 25-14.

#Shoutout to Greta for serving up 11 points in a row!

The finals put us up against the Ice team we lost to in pool play. The girls took control of the first and second sets early and took home the gold 25-19 and 25-18. Bracket play was exactly what you want to see, solid execution, aggressive play and lots of energy. It was nice to see we could shake off the dust from pool play and clean everything up well enough to bring home a victory.

17 black played a short tourney down at the Rec Plex this past weekend. We were seeded 5th of 6 teams, but ended up taking down the #1 seed and fell just short losing 15-12 in the third in the championship game. Considering this was the first time we’ve been able to play a 6-2 in almost 2 months, we really felt like we built on the momentum from last weekend’s tournament and played really solid. Each player on the team contributed in a meaningful way. Becca was able to continue her ankle recovery enough to play all the way around and earn her first serving pin with a team leading 11 aces including 8 in one match – along with 13 kills. Ava was really solid with 37 assists and some great serving. Maddie K led the offense again with 19 kills and chipped in with 8 aces. Molly and Natalie did a fantastic job in the middle with 15 kills and 6 blocks between them. Anna’s cheeseburger energy powered her to 14 kills and 2 blocks and a special mention to Maddie Metke who played outside for the tournament and did a fantastic job with 11 kills, 3 aces, and some great defense/serve receive. Lastly, our dual liberos really locked down the defense with some awesome digs and serve receive – and therefore

#SHOUTOUT to our first ‘CO-MVPs’ – EJ and Macey- Great job with your play and energy!
